This is an exhibition by the Japanese painting group "Chikujo no Kai," which pursues its own unique expression while learning and inheriting the tradition of Japanese painting in Kyoto.

The "Chikujo no Kai" exhibition began in 2019 as a successor to the "Fuyū Ryūkō" exhibition, a Japanese painting exhibition held for nearly 30 years at Murata Gallery by Mr. Koichi Takeuchi and Mr. Shigeki Murata.

This exhibition features six artists who were influenced by both masters.

This is the 7th exhibition.

Teisho Wakasa and Hitoe Wada seek a certain truth between abstraction and figuration, making extensive use of ink.

Masaya Hasegawa challenges new forms of Japanese painting with his descriptive power and composition.
Junichi Matsuda
composes canvases with depth by layering pencil and ink, while Rika Teramura and Mariko Yoshida create their own worldviews by valuing traditional sketching and carefully observing their subjects.

《Artist's Comment》

The act of drawing a line—form is born there.

I repeat these actions. Repetition changes form, creating countless forms,

and then, within that countlessness, they disappear.

Exploring form, trying to establish existence, I draw and erase, add and scrape,

I repeat the act of drawing and erasing.

While doing so, existence emerges, enveloped in a certain atmosphere.

Something that is invisible but exists.

Something that is visible but untouchable.

Something that is faintly, yet undeniably, present.

Matsuda Junichi

I've walked a series of crossroads, but there's no path laid out behind me.

Mountains, rivers, plants, trees—only beautiful things.

I wish I could do something like "God's work," but I want to detach myself from such wishes,

I want to become empty, without "existence" or "non-existence."

I hope I can paint in such a state of mind.

I want to become such a "vessel."

Kuwata Keisuke of Southern All Stars sings about this in "Relay ~ Mori no Uta."

"I'm sorry for being so foolish."

I'll sing too. No, I'll paint.

"I'm sorry for being so foolish, dreaming of tomorrow."
